  1. I am having trouble with my Pinnacle PCTV...

    I am getting a hardware conflict error?

    I am only having trouble since installing the bt848 drivers instead of the pinnacle drivers.

    When I open up device manager there are 3 things listed in there for my card... they are:

    * Conexant's BtPCI WDM Audio Capture
    * Conexant's BtPCI WDM Video Capture
    * Pinnacle PCTV Data Service

    Should the Pinnacle one still be there? Could that be causing the confilct. What is the Data Service is there a bt848 driver for data service?

    I am only new to this so any helo would be appreciated!!!

  2. Any ideas anyone???

    I tried installing the old drivers again but when I did that everytime I go to Capture in Virtual Dub it freezes my whole computer and I have to reboot?

    I have searched the forum but can't find any info on it....

    I don't think VirtualDub works with WDM drivers. However there are many other capture programs that will. You can always import the capture after it is done into VirtualDub if you want to use it to edit or whatever then frameserve to TMPGEnc for mpeg-2 encoding. In short you just can't CAPTURE with VirtualDub when using WDM drivers.

    I'm like 99% sure of that but hey I could be wrong

  4. I would go to windows device manager and delete all three listings then re-boot and let windows find the hardware.

  5. Ok but ever since I installed the WDM drivers I keep getting a hardware initialization error....

    What could be causing that?

    What program do you recommend for capturing if I can't use Virtual Dub?

    I am using Windows 98....

  6. You should be able to look in device manager at all your hardware and in properties/resources find out what piece of hardware has the conflict then manually change the IRQ for that device to clear the conflict.

  7. I just tried removing all 3 things in device manager and when I rebooted it installed the bt drivers automatically...

    Still getting hardware initialization error....

    Here is what is listed in resources....

    * 00 - System timer
    * 01 - Standard 101/102-key or Microsoft natural keyboard
    * 02 - Programmable interrupt controller
    * 03 - Communications port (COM2)
    * 04 - Communications port (COM1)
    * 05 - Vortex AU8810 Sound Blaster Pro Emulation
    * 06 - Standard floppy disk controller
    * 07 - Printer port (LPT1)
    * 08 - System CMOS/real time clock
    * 09 - SCI IRQ used by ACPI bus
    * 10 - Conexant's BtPCI WDM Audio Capture
    * 10 - Conexant's BtPCI WDM Video Capture
    * 10 - VIA Tech 3038 PCI to USB Universal Host Controller
    * 10 - ACPI IRQ Holder for PCI IRQ Steering
    * 10 - ACPI IRQ Holder for PCI IRQ Steering (no idea why this is in twice)
    * 11 - Vortex AU8810 Multifunction PCI platform
    * 11 - Vortex AU8810 PCI Audio
    * 11 - NVidia Vanta (HP - English)
    * 11 - ACPI IRQ Holder for PCI IRQ Steering
    * 11 - ACPI IRQ Holder for PCI IRQ Steering (samething again.. could this be the problem??)
    * 12 - PS/2 Compatible Mouse Port
    * 13 - Numeric data processor
    * 14 - VIA Bus master PCI IDE Controller
    * 14 - Primary IDE controller (dual fifo)
    * 15 - Via Bus Master PCI IDE Controller (this is also in twice)
    * 15 - Secondary IDE Controller (dual fifo)

    Is there anything obvious in there that could be causing my problem?

    If yes how do I fix it... I have absolutely no idea!!

  8. Check other devices like your sound card and video card for conflicts. All it takes is one item to screw up a computer.

  9. How do I do that?

    These are the exact error messages I get:

    When trying to open PCTV Vision:
    "Hardware initialization failed. Possible reasons:Power supply not connected, USB cable not connected, Sound card is missing, Hardware in use by another application, Twain driver is running... Possible solutions: If another application is open that uses PCTV (Studio, PCTV Radio or PCTV Twain driver), please close it first."

    When I hit capture in Virtual Dub it says:
    "You cannot use this device when another video application, such as DVD, video conferencing, video editing, TV viewers, or WebTV for windows is already using it. To use this device for your current application, close the application that is using it. If WebTV is installed and running on your system, pause the "WebTV video and data services" on the taskbar tray by right-clicking its icon and choosing Pause services".

  10. You check for conflicts in windows device manager, just pick a device right click select properties then resources and if there is a conflict it will show up in that screen.

    Also I would run msconfig from the windows start/run and look in the startup tab for any programs that may be set to start at boot that would tie up your capture device.

    Just go back to using the Pinnacle drivers or were they not working as needed? If you are having trouble going back to the Pinnacle drivers (as in can't figure it out) just delete the bt848 drivers and re-boot the computer. This time PICK the option to choose the driver you want to install ... rather than having WINDOWS do it for you. Now install the Pinnacle drivers.

  12. I am trying to go back to the old drivers....

    I remove the bt ones through device manager and when I restart it automatically reinstalls them again and doesn't give me a chance to reinstall the pinnacle ones.

    How can I stop it from doing that?

  13. I have tried everything to put the old drivers back in but windows just keeps automatically installing the bt drivers.

    How can I completely remove these drivers from my computer?

    Try letting it install. GO TO DEVICE MANAGER>expand out device highlight capture device view properties..click reinstall driver..NOW SHOW ALL DRIVER not just compatible ones, you should be able to show it the new drivers
    Only prob..sometimes it says it wasn't written for your device (incompatible) so then, you hav'ta find an intermediate but ok driver, to allow you to load the new ones...

    otherwise..TAKE THE CARD OUT
    GO IN SAFE MODE..remove all traces from device manager. REBOOT

    Put card back in

    Btwincap's installer has an option for removing all drivers and entries related to bt8xx hardware, give that a shot for clearing out all the drivers then try installing the Pinnacle drivers

    Btwincap's download link.

    And homepage.

    For capture try iuVCR it's designed to work with WDM drivers, has loads of capture options and will use pretty much every codec available. Virtualdub is designed for VFW drivers so wont work properly with WDM type without a WDM to VFW driver wrapper.

  16. @Buttsy00. What version of Windows 98 are you using? From what I'd been recently informed of the WDM capture app's IUVCR & VirtualVCR don't multi-segment capture, so under FAT32 limitations you'd be stuck at the 4Gb limit.

    Follow the previously advice above to totally remove all drivers via the BT8xxx drivers using its uninstaller.

    You then might want to consider trying the following Pinnacle drivers located here....
    http://www.pinnaclesys.com/docsupport1.asp?division_id=1&langue_id=2&product_id=6&prod...CTV&page_id=62

    These older V4.02a drivers are VFW drivers & will work fine under app's like VirtualDub,AVI_IO etc. Just ignore the blurb about them being tested on XP only,they work fine on Win 98 1st Edition.
    As for the possible hardware conflicts, I found the best approach with the PCTV pro card I have was to assign it its own IRQ via the BIOS.

    See if your Soundcard's Soundblaster pro emulator allows "LPT interrupt sharing" under the device manager->Vortex8810 Soundblaster Pro Properties. If it does, your parallel port would share IRQ 5, leaving IRQ7 free to be assigned to the PCTV card via your BIOS settings.

    Beforehand mine would always try to share with the IRQ's of either my Gf3ti200,or Soundblaster Live card's, which'd cause troubles.
    You might have to try updating the VIA drivers though-my card's on an Intel based board,& I think there's a few issues with the PCTV cards & Via chipsets.

  17. Thanks for that I am downloading those drivers now...

    I was wondering if someone could give me a step by step guide of how to assing it's own IRQ via BIOS.

    I am using Windows 98 2nd edition...

  18. Did you manage to get the older drivers up & running okay?
