do a search..I believe this has been tossed around several times..it because usually they lower the overall bitrate of the movie.

those commercial vcd's may contain 1.3 gig
Don't ask me how they do it but
I'm still figuring out how to get 1.3 gig on a 80 min cd
and can still be read by a vcd player
Something to do with packetwriting

HI
It can fit via tow method :
AUTOMATIC VIBRATE up to 1150k
using TMPGENC ... access to my site , download the TMPGENC
template and you will get a 90 minutes that can fit on a 74 regular cd .
http://www.GEOCITIES.COM/GOLDENAXE4000
or ... to switch the vibrate to 650K and run it
to burn suck movie you will need a NERO 5.540 program .

VideoCDs are a different animal from typical "data" CDs. A true whitebook spec VCD can hold up to 74 minutes of video, regardless of how big the actual .dat files are.
The only films that I've seen that are on only 1 disc (true VCD discs) are "adult" films.... well, not that I've actually "watched" any... but that's what the labels say.
Most films require at least 2 discs. I have "King of Kings", and it is on 3.
(edit)
Oh, almost forgot. Straight DVD -> VCD rips look absolutely awesome using Smartripper -> DVD2AVI -> TMPEGENC route. But that will result in 2 discs per movie. I used sefy's SxVCD template for TMPEGENC and was able to fit all of "Army of Darkness" on a single disc. Playback quality was significantly reduced, and I wouldn't do it again unless there was a need to, but it can be done.
