  1. I don't know what the hell I did wrong, but I CANNOT get WMV editing programs to run on my computer correctly. I used to be able to use Windows Movie Maker, and Media Encoder, but can't anymore. In Movie Maker, the farthest I can get is to where you add titles or transitions. After I click on either of them, the program either closes down automatically or freezes. With Media Encoder, it just always says my file types are invalid, no maatter what format the file I'm trying to convert is.

I figured it might have been something wrong with the Windows-based programs, so I tried using the VCD and MPEG4 converters at http://www.artech365.com , but they wouldn't let me save anything in WMV format either. The program would start converting and stop at 6 seconds (and it was supposed to convert the entire file, even though the program wasn't registered yet). I did however get a message at the beginning of the program that said I needed to MPEG Layer 3 codec to convert to some formats. So I went and installed the fraunhofer MPEG 3 codec. The program no longer displayed the message saying that i needed the codec, but it STILL wouldn't convert the file properly.

I'm stuck. Anybody know any other software i might be able to use to convert to WMV, or anyone know what could be cause all these programs errors?

  3. I have the same problem with Movie Maker, but Windows Media Encoder works for me. I am still trying to figure out what's up with Movie Maker!

  5. Whoops.. seems I spoke too soon. I can convert AVI files to WMV with Stoik, but cannot directly convert MPG files. I have to change them to XVid format AVi files first. Grrrrrrr

I am very much thinking it has something to do with my codecs...

I noticed something too: If I try to drag an MPG file to the Windows Movie Maker timeline, it doesn't go to the Video section, and you are only able to add it to the audio section. But with AVI's I can drag them to the video section of the timeline with no problem. Hmmm.....

*I can now convert AVI files to WMV using Windows Movie maker, but if I try to click on any of the extra features such as editing or transitions, Movie maker still shuts down automatically.
