  2. Well if you want an idiots guide, here I am

Not a lot of info provided and I am not familar with pinnacle.

But if you have created the DVD files(.vob) with your program, then open nero burning rom, close wizzard, select DVD UFD 1.02, new, and drag your video_ts and audio_ts folders over to nero and burn.
Of course you can change your label, dates or whatever in nero if you want before you burn it.

I don't use the nero video DVD for anything, I just burn in a data mode.

I have a toshiba 5002 -r/-rw burner and Nero and that's how I been burning my -r -rw disks. All are working well in the computers and a norcent stand alone settop player.

No one really mentions how to get .vob files in the guides. Those are the actual DVD files created from your avi or mpg file. That drove me buggy to begin with, what they are or how to get them!
I geuss that's what your pinnacle does is create those files for you?

    If not then,
I am using tmpenc dvd author, which is free and fully working for 30 days and just $60-$70 to buy. Only thing I have been able to use and get good results with myself so far. If you need it, follow link in tools section for tmpenc plus to thier site,
I only been capturing in mpeg1 myself, program probably does .avi and other too, though I haven't tried.
The program lets you open your mpg file, clip out what you don't want, set chapters, make menu's and more, then it makes the dvd files and saves them to your hard drive and you then use nero to burn those.
Only program I tried so far that works well all the time, gives very good results and the fastest I tried also. Easest to use!
It does not capture or burn, but if you have mpg files under 4 gig (so they fit the dvd disk) it's probably all you need if you have nero already.

    Guys,
From another person who is still learning the ropes. I get my VOBs from DVD rips. I use CLADDVD. It will rip the DVD and put the video and audio into "n" number of VOB files each of which is as large as what I state. Right now I have them set to 1 Gb. So a 4.7Gb DVD will produce via CLADDVD 4 1 Gb files and one of 700 Mb.
CLADDVD also will frameserve to DVD2AVI if desired (just a simple box check is all that is needed) where DVD21AVI will create the d2v and wav files for use in your favorite encoder. Or if you prefer you can manually launch DVD2AVI and get exactly the same results or even an AVI version is you like.
The rest is just encoding to MPEG2 and then author and burn with your fav's.

  4. Just curious...why arn't you buring with Pinnacle Studio 8?
After rendering your mpeg2, cilick on disk, choose your settings, make disk. It will compile and burn to your DVD-RW.

  5. Quite a number of people are lucky with Pinnacle Studio 8 (PS8 for short), I am one of them.
Why don't you give this a try with PS8, it has three TABS for:
    1) CAPTURE: capture your movie (in AVI)
    2) EDIT: you can optionally do some video editing if you want inside PS8
    3) MAKE MOVIE:
    a) select MAKE DISC, DVD
    b) create content only (do not burn) OR burn disc (it may work)
    c) hit START (and go to sleep because it takes a long time to encode/author DVD). Do not forget to put a blank DVD in your burner.

If you select burn disc, the next day your DVD should have been burned (just look at PS8 completion message: either sucessful or error).
Close PS8 and always answer YES to "save project ?" message.

If the burn fails OR if you select create content only (at step 3c above), then PS8 creates a folder inside AuxiliaryFiles folder, try to look in the subdirectories, you should find a folder named VIDEO_TS. You can use Nero to burn this folder to DVD and get a working DVD.

Start Nero, select DVD video files, click ADD, browse to the VIDEO_TS folder mentioned above, select all files except the Anchor files. Click Add, click Finish, then BURN. Lot of clicking but it's straightforward.
