Help, I used to be able to burn VCD's... but that was before I
installed my DVD-burner... Now when I try to burn a DVD it seems to work
just fine... and it even plays back well on the PC, but not in my stand
alone player. I have noticed that the "burned" portion of the disc does
not seem to be as dark as normal... anyone have any ideas on this... by
the way... I can burn DVD's without any problems... Thank you!

Thanks for this post because I have the exact same problem.
I used to be able to burn VCD/SVCD np with both my CD burner and my Sony DRX 500 ULX DVD burner till a couple of weeks ago.
Do not know what happened but now my VCD's come out with a lighter rim and do not play on my stand alone Sony DVD player (even though they still play on my Apex stand alone).
I have tried all I could think of - various media, software, uninstalling, reinstalling, switching to PIO settings, all with no luck.
I have posted this problem a couple of times here already with no answers.
At least I know now that I am not alone.
What softe ware and hard ware have you had this problem with?
Running Windows XP here by the way, burn with Nere, Record NowDX, MyDVD, Roxio Easy CDCreator, VCDEasy, all have same problem.
I guessing it is some sort of driver or format change in Windows? -
OK, so we are not alone... I am using Ulead DVD Movie Factory... just like I did before the DVD burner was installed. This is very strange... I agree with you that is is most likely a driver issue. You can see my system specs by looking at my profile. The thing the really has me confused is the "burned" part of the disc being so much lighter than before... By the way, burned DVD's work great in any player I have tried. And any other type of CD I burn in the DVD burner works great... software... music... anything but VCD or SVCD.

I am still struggling with this problem... Have tried many different brands of media. Different software... Still, my DVD burner will not record VCD's. And the "burned" part of the discs appear to be too light (not as dark as an audio or data CD burned in the same player). Anyone have a clue? Thanks.

I am really stumped with this on... Is it possible that my DVD burner will not burn a VCD complint CDR? That would be very amish in my opinion. Please, any help or suggestions would be great! Thank you.

What program are you using to burn. What settings. Are you burning an image file (bin/cue) or the MPEG directly?

I am using Ulead DVD Movie Factory... just like I did before the DVD burner was installed. I think it creates an image before it burns. It uses Ulead MMC CD/DVD writing plug-in. When I burned with a CD burner they worked perfectly in my stand alone Pioneer DV-333.

I have had no luck solving this problem. I gave up trying and just burn more DVD/-+Rs for now.

I think I will try putting the CD burner back in... in place of the DVD burner... just to make sure that is the cause. Would anyone like to know the results?
