Both apps now do both (resize a DVD to 1 DVD-R via transcoding AND do 1:1 copies). You can use them both to get the movie only and then cram it down to 1 DVD-R, strip out audio streams, etc. It doesnt take an mpeg 2 and make it a VOB file. You can use a dvd authoring app to do that (i.e. Movie Factory 2, spruce up, etc.).
If you want to know more information, do a search for DVD2one and a search for DVDshrink. I am also thinking that the links to the sites are both in the tools section on the left. -
Both programs are used to copy DVD movie to a DVd-R disk. To use them you need a DVD-R recorder in your computer. Retail DVD's are about 8GB's but we can only buy 4.37GB disks. Both programs compress the 8Gb's down to 4.37GB's so you can make a copy.
DVD Shrink is freeware but has many problems. DVD2ONE is shareware, costs $45.00 but works everytime. -
I agree that DVD2ONE is a great programe. My computer is a bit on the slow side so the less software mpeg-2 encoding I do the better
However, at this time, DVD2ONE does not support 1:1 back-up without compressing. You can make a 1:1 back-up but it will "compress" it to fit on a single DVD-R so there will be quality loss.
The author of DVD2ONE says that in the future he may support perfect bit-for-bit copies (which will have to be split over 2 DVD-R discs) but at this time it lacks those capabilits.
If you are interested in that then there is DVDXCOPY (which nearly destroyed my computer so I'm never touching it though it works for some) or there is a new program called DVDFab that seems promising though right now it is in early BETA stages. I did just (like as in today) download it and tried it with one dual layer DVD and it seemed to work just fine but I've only played the DVD files off of the HDD so far with WinDVD ... I haven't actually gone ahead and burned them ... yet.

BTW I found out about this program by reading the daily NEWS section of the DOOM9 website.

P.S.
The DOOM9 website has a great guide on using DVD2ONE"The eyes are the first thing that you have to destroy ... because they have seen too many bad things" - Lucio Fulci
