I have never purchased ANYTHING off of EBAY, however, I have sold a few things. I have 100% positive feedback, however, being that i've only sold a handful of things that may not mean much. My point though is I just saw some good deals on media, and the person selling the media has a 97% positive feedback ratio....and has around 5,400 positive feedback results..while only having about 250 negative.....
My question is...I see some damn good deals on some of the media this person is auctioning/selling...and I was wondering if I should bid on it? With that type of rating....I would think it seems legit.....the disks are
official 2x Maxells..or so the ads say.
Any advice, comments, suggestions on whether I should jump on these?

humm....just curious..are you an avid ebay shopper? I don't know what would cause someone to report negative feedback...but the person has a positive ratio of around 97%,....that sounds high to me...no?

A friend of mine just "bidded" a 50 pack of dvd-rs' for a "steal" on EBAY. He got just what he paid for....a steal. He never received the dvd's and he's having a hard time getting anything done about it. Sure he can flag the guy as a thief but that does nothing for the money he's out of. Find a reputable deal like maybe Meritline and buy from them. At least you can get your money back if you don't get your goods.

250 negative votes is pretty high even 97% is positive. But how bad an unused media can be? Buy brand name at cheap price and always keep 20 blank at hand. The price will be lower and lower. -
Check the shipping prices. I've seen one seller shipping price was $9 for a stick of RAM.

Ebay should be used for collectibles and deals. Having 250 feedback is bad, no matter you many or how few feedbacks they have overall, and 97% is not that high.
Read the feedback and judge for yourself. If "they stole my money" or "shipped wrong item and refused refund/replacement" are the comments, then stay away. If somebody gripes that "he overcharged $1 for shipping" or "the top disc on the spindle was dirty", then ignore the whiners. Just read and see for yourself.
Overall, buy from a company like Allmediaoutlet or Meritline. That's your best bet. And the "steals" on eBay are usually junk in hiding or outright bad service or theft.I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored. -
thanks for the "feedback" on the EBAY "feedback." I think I will pass then. As far as theft goes though....that can happen with ANY item, and it's a crap shoot. That, I am aware of. I just figured with going over five thousand five hundred transactions...it looked as though the seller was reputable. If I bid on those Maxells...I could get them for 50 cents a disk.
As I said though...I appreciate the info and i'm gonna pass on the media from Ebay. -
Media on ebay is usually the same price or even more expensive than if you order it off a online store. Its because sellers that have an extremely high feedback probably it trying to do business. If the price is low then the shipping costs are extremely high. They have to make a profit somehow.

I agree...
however, for dvd-rw media its not so bad. Who wants to get 10 or 25 rewritable disks when 3 is plenty!
there's a guy who sells DVD PRO dvd-rw media for $.01 then shipping of 6 dollars.
you cant beat that, plus, if you figure meritline/supermedia store shippign is 6 dollars also your practically getting these disks for free!
He has millions on so if someone bid $.01 on one, just scroll down and you will find lots more.
here's his ebay id (techbarginsonline)
Click on this and you can see what he has online now

i got 2 packs of the DVD PRO dvd-rw from him they came within 3 days! -
I've bought 90's, dvd's and cases off ebay and haven't had a problem yet. It all depends on the guys feedback I guess. I have never bought from anyone with "he ripped me off" as a message--even one should make you nervous. The only other thing (that was mentioned already) is that you have to watch those shipping charges--sometimes after shipping and "handling" its not such a deal anymore.

hummm..so now there are positive posters for ebay. That's good to know I guess...the only concern I have is that this "POWERSELLER" is supposed to be a special thing from what I understand...and this one guy was selling 100 Official branded Maxell 2x disks for $110...noone even bid on them....I asked on here and "Disturbed" said them being listed as shrink wrapped shows they aren't Official Branded Maxells..because 100 official Branded Maxells should be in a cake box.
That makes me wonder how someone can have a 99% positive feedback and be a power seller with thousands of transactions? Can anyone explain this?
@Galactica ..those DVDPRO are apparently Princo disks and not good at all..but how many can a person get for $6.01? I know you can get them for as little as .01...w/ $6 shipping...which does sound like it would be worth it to get them and burn less then 4 GB's of Data...but my questions are...
how many is he selling at .01 if you win the bid...and more importantly, can you confirm a winning bidder of one cent has actually gotten the shipment?
Please advise on this..thanks -

I will be honest, my bro in law and I have loved being able to unload and sell our surplus Princo's after finding out they're crap. So in that regard Ebay rocks !!!!!!

@galactica, those disks are Princo, if you haven't had a problem with them...it's may have something to do with the fact that they are "RW" disks...the problem Princo disks or DVDPRO disks...are - OR + R so hopefully your good luck continues. Just make sure you are watching the endings of your movies...if there is a problem...more likely then not you will notice it there.
@Vric, the people who get those DVDPRO/PRINCO Disks for around $1 are getting DVD-R or DVD+R..the RW format in general is more expensive because of its rewrite capabilites. So Galactica is getting a good deal as far as price...i'd just be weary of Princo. -

Just wondering what you mean by Princo disks.
I have 100 of these DVD Pro dvd-r disks and have been using them since i got my dvd burner. Not a one has errored and no coasters. Probably burned about 25 of them. That said, if they are princo disks, are they prone to being bad or something?
It sounds like you dont like them very much, what brand then do you recommend?
Ive been though BeAll's (dont get recognized), Maxell's (error around 90% complete) and the Accu's (only write at 1x). -
Everytime i have bid on media on ebay and won i have always got the media but every one is different even after 300 ebay auctions i have not been ripped off once or had a single negative comment. i have bought dvd-r and cd-r off ebay many times some people are legit and some people are ******** just have to take the chance and if you do find that 1 legit guy selling media always go back to them so you know you wont get ripped i usually do that and sometimes they even cut me some deals like i got a spindle of 100 4X riteks for 120$ off ritek and he gave me free shipping (even tho the auction said 10$ s/h) and he sent me a 10pk of 2x riteks for free super guy. also watch out for s/h people on ebay like to jack it up alot just to make acouple bucks like people that charge 8$ for shipping and than you get the thing in the mail and the stamp says 4.95$
but that is just my stories of ebay i am sure there are tons of horror stories just like with everything else.[ = Check out my band @ www.samadhirock.com = ] -
I have made purchases media and cases about 6-7 times from ebay. The only problem I had was one of the batches of cases were used cases ( from video rental stores like blockbuster ) and 3 out of the 100 in that batch were damaged due to poor packaging. Like others have said, it's a chance you take buying anything online, just check the persons feedback and if your not comfortable, don't buy. I know the last time I purchased disks I got them from an online retailer, there price was better than any on ebay at the time, with shipping & handling figured in. That's what's great about the internet, use it to shop around and research.

I use ebay allot. Read some of the negitive feedback to see what the complaints were about. If people were complaining about they did not receive what they paid for...Buyer Beware.

@Galactica....I have never purchased Princo disks but many others have and have had problems..so it's not that I don't like them..it's that countless others don't.
There is a tool in the tools section of this forum called "advdinfo" or you can use nicw's DVDINFO tool which is more current. Put the disk in your burner and check and see ..it will almost certainly read "Princo" under the manufacturer id. Basically, many products are made by one company and sold under a different name. From canned fruit to dvd media. Princo is no exception. DVDPRO apparently has a "good ring" to it...so people buy it and don't know it's Princo.
Another thing is that you keep saying these disks you are purchasing are "DVD-R's"....your link shows they are DVD-RW's which are not the same disks everyone is complaining about. If you aren't mistyping and you really are purchasing DVD-R's, you are paying twice as much as you could online. If the auction link was accurate, then you are paying for rewritables which are more costly.
Either way, if you haven't had a problem with them, then I guess you are lucky. -
