#edit, Just noticed wrong forum. If it can be moved, most appreciated.#
1)Has anyone given this a try? I've gotten the 200I last August, and am now thinking about upgrading to the latest version and selling off my current version. Is it worth it?
2)The 200I seems to have a problem burning 700MB CDR's, and sometimes dosn't burn them at all. Has this been fixed with the new version?
3)When will HP support DVD-R and DVD-RW? For $300's, it'd be nice to have a drive that does both.
Finally, My father tilted my computer when the drive was burning, and since then, I've had three disc burn failures in a row(never happened before). Could this have damaged the drive?

I have the external model (the 200e). I was thinking about upgrading until I did the math on how much time would be saved on a full disk.
On the 2 and a 1/2 it takes about 24 minutes (including the lead in and out)
On the 4 it would be about 16 or 17 minutes.
Personally, I'm not about to spend another 3 to 400 dollars for that short a difference.
Also, If your drive isn't working...they will replace it for free... The first week I had the burner (last july...damn....almost a year) It started doing bad dvd burns but was fine on reading dvd's and burning and reading cd's. After a short phone call with HP, they had me flash the unit...when that didn't work....they sent me a new one and a return slip for the old one
The expense on these things is not just the unit with HP...its also the quality of the help. -
Yeah, I was thinking about calling HP and hoping we can exchange it for the 300I since we paid about $320 for this drive.
We got the drive in August of 2002, and it worked flawlessly untill about February. First, it wouldn't write TDK 80 minute CD's anymore, after about 100 burnerd in the months before. Second, it stopped reading ANY DVD or recognizing any DVD/CD(home made or pro) for about 4 days. After that, it read DVD's and burned DVD's again, but still wouldn't burn CD's.
Finally, when my dad moved my computer to get at the back, I realized that it had started burning already whe he had it about half flipped over. I yelled at him to put it back, and that disc failed. 3 more failed discs later, I finally managed to get one done properly, but two more discs after it failed with this never having happened before.
It still readsd home made and pro DVD's fine. -
Definately call them up.....if it is really that bad they def have to replace it....you might even get a newer one out of it
