  1. Okay, I've read almost every post about this...

I've tried cutting the avi first using avichopper and tmpeng, but both of them have severe issues with sound and video synch. The original is perfect..

Now, I can convert the avi to mpg (vcd format) using tmpeng and have a nice large, but perfect mpg file that i can cut.. I can cut it fine with myflix, but then I get a non standard vcd when I go to burn it in nero.. does this matter? is myflix screwing it up and are there any easy solutions..?? the two cut files play perfectly in sync..

    Thanks!

  2. actually i just read something flexion.org that says with myflix, you have to save the mpeg with .vcd extension for it to remain compliant.. will try this weekend and let you know..

Use Vdub to cut the AVI before you convert.

Load Movie, check for bad frames "vdub-mp3-freeze.exe" is cool

Go to end of the movie in Vdub, find "number of frames". Divide this number by 2

    I.e. total frames = 8000
    8000/2= 4000.

1 Go to beginning of movie, mark it as the "start", Go to 4000 and click back "1 key frame" Mark it as the "end".
2 Click Video > Direct stream copy, Same for Audio
    3, Save AVI "part1.avi"

4, Go to 4000, click back "1 key frame" and mark as "start"
5, Go to end of movie, click back "1 key frame", mark as "end"
    6, Save AVI "part2.avi"

Now convert part 1 and 2 separately with a Loaded VCD Template in TMPGEnc burn to 2 CD's

Some DivX Movies have bad frames at the end, audio might be a little longer than video, so using the key frames will prevent any problems with programs like TMPGEnc and also prevent lip out of sync

  4. When I try to use VDUB for a legitimate sized movie (say 90 min), VDUB usually crashes. When it doesnt crash, it doesn't even load all of the frames! In fact, it only loads approx. the first 1/10 of the frames. Any thoughts on why this happens? I believe I am trying to edit a DivX file.

    Thanks

Hi Sorry for the late reply.

Well make sure you have the latest version, currently VirtualDub-1_4_7.

Also you may need the "vdub-mp3-freeze.exe" this can scan a movie for bad frames. However if the movie is very bad even that will crash.

Find out what the movie type is, click your right hand mouse on the AVI and select properties. Make sure you have that codec installed.

Check the codec's you have installed, see if there is a new version of it. New Mpeg4 movies of 150mb are not as good as the larger ones of 700Mb or so. part1=200Mb aprox.

When you get a crash, is it possible to see what the problem is. One of the biggest problems of locking Vdub is bad frames

  6. You can just encode part of the AVI.

    1) Run TMPEGenc, load desired template, and open avi file source.
    2) Click on Settings, then the advance tab
    3) Double click on 'source range'
    4) Choose the start/stop frames you want (time stamp in top left) for the standard VCD template 1min=10MB
    5) Choose file | save project.
    6) Go back to source range and choose the other 1/2 of the movie (or 1/3, or 1/4, ...)
    7) Give the output MPEG a different name, and choose file | save project (different name)

Choose File | Batch Encoding, add all projects, hit run.

MPEGs of the correct size ready to burn.

You wont convert anything with TMPGEnc if the Divx has bad frames.

  8. Thanks for the help. Where can I download vdub-freeze.exe? And if the divx DOES have bad frames, can i get rid of them or do i have to download a different version? Thanks.
Also, is it normal to have vdub take FOREVER to load up a lengthy video (say 30 seconds to load a 90 min video file?)
    Thanks
