I have a few questions concerning this program. First, when it encodes my d2v files to m2v files, it usually takes me 3 hours on my 2Ghz 256mbs ram computer. how much faster will it go if i add another 256 mb of ram to 512mbs? Next, can i uninstall it then reinstall it to aviod the 30-day trial limitation? Are there any programs that will take away limitations for me?

As far as the speed of your encodes, I cannot answer, but programmers have evolved past the uninstall/reinstall trick of renewing trial programs. Please consider buying the program. Anyone who can afford a 2 GHz machine should be able to plop down 48 small ones for this great program. If my argument seems too weak for you, consider this:

I don't think it's going to be a RAM limitation as much as it's a processor limitation... I do most of my conversions on an AMD XP 1800 box with 768Mb of RAM, and it still takes 6-8 hours for a 90 minute movie.
I didn't see a large speed jump when I went from 256 to 768.
your mileage may vary.
oh yeah... buy the program.- housepig

additional ram will do almost nothing. You need a new processor or a new architecture.

lol u people sure got moody! i didnt even know what warez is, still don't . hey, if ALL of you are copying copyrighted, let me say it again, copyrighted DVDs illegally anyway, why do you protect your little programs so much? That question goes to the webmaster of this site, too.

3 Hours encoding sounds about right it takes me around 2-3 hours too with around the same spec computer.
But I don't understand why it should be taking 6-8 Hours, I had a Pentium III and 256 SDRAM a few years back and it only took 12 hours on that! If you want an encoder that is twice as fast and twice the quality you should go for CCE 2.50. One pass on that only takes around an hour and a half and is much better quality than multiple passes on TMPGEnc. However it is a lot more expensive.
As for the 30 day MPEG-2 trial thing with TMPGEnc you don't need to pay for the MPEG-2 encoding. They used to do a version with free MPEG-2 encoding a while back called TMPGEnc-0.11.20.98-rel1. It was a few years ago but I'm sure if you searched for it you could find it (I did about a year ago, I think I may have even got it from the official site). Only downside is that it's in Japanese, but it has the same layout as all the other TMPGEnc versions so is not too difficult to figure out, besides you can use the 30 trial version as a guide as layout is the same. -

#2 - making a backup of a disc you own is allowable in the U.S. under the concept of "Fair Use". As such, while some of the tools to do it and methods of doing it are illegal (DeCSS in particular), the concept is still being fought out in court, precedents are still being set, and the owner of this site is willing to run the risk of being screwed to the wall to defend the idea of "Fair Use".
Fair Use doesn't extend to downloading movies off the net, trading pirate ftp sites, or asking people "how do I hack the trial period on this software"... those are considered warez on this site. And discussing warez is a good way to open up the owners of this board to legal trouble, and get this site shut down, which would suck for the rest of us.
If you want to find a warez site, go do it - this isn't it. If you lack the skills to find the info you are looking for elsewhere, learn some.
Is that clear enough for you, Brainiac? Or do you need pictures?- housepig

#1 is key. A lot of people are here because digitial videography is their hobby. Shotting home movies, editing them, making killer menus (for no clear reason) and athoring DVDs.
With that said, encoding MPEGs is a CPU intensive process. TMPGenc isn't the fastest program in the world either. For better speed consider CCE (full or basic), Main Concept or Ulead. -
