Hey gang,

Well, I'm pretty new to all this. I have a friend that has been helping me out, but I'd like to get some other opinions on software and techniques...

Basically, I have the following setup:

Sony DCR-TRV27 video camera
Athlon 2100 w 512 MB DDR266 RAM (will upgrade to 3200+, DDR400 in fall)
Sony DRU-510A DVD everything drive
Nvidia GeForce4Ti 4400.

My player is a first generation Playstation 2. Might pick up a cheap Apex player in a couple months.

I'm currently using my friend's copy of Vegas 4 since he doesn't need it anymore (he's got the Video Toaster setup). I'm finding Vegas easy to use and I was able to edit up the video from a friend's wedding that I shot and it came out pretty well.

For Authoring software I only have the MyDVD stuff that came with the Sony drive. Can you do DVD authoring with Vegas directly?

What else should I get or do I need?

What I'd like to do is the following:

- Edit and burning of video I shoot to DVD and/or VCD
- Possibly capture video off my Dish Network receiver and store to DVD/VCD.

What do I need to do the Dish Network capturing (aside from the tuner) ??

I tried to burn that wedding video to a Philips DVD+RW and it burned fine at 2X, but wouldn't play in the PS2. When I tried to burn it to an Imation -R at 4X the burner recognized the disk as a 4X compatible, but when I went to write to the disk it immediately failed with a media error.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!
