I've gotten several good DVD's burned using an ADVC 100 and Videowave 5 to capture, Goldwave to extract and repair audio, TMPEnc to encode and Movie Factory to author. This works great on smaller movies but on larger movies I would like to use .ac3 for the sound so I can increase my video quality. My question is what do some of you recommend for a newbie to try. By this I mean relatively simple but still with good results and able to use .ac3 for the sound.

Absolute simplest and best DVD authoring program that uses AC3 sound is DVDLab ($79). A bonus is that it happens to be one of the most powerful programs around as well.
You use BeSweet (freeware) to convert your .WAV or other audio into AC3, and then DVDLab to author it. Works great for me."Like a knife, he cuts through life, like every day's his last" -- Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
