  4. It might just be easier to buy a DVD drive for the PC or tv card if you're trying to capture from tv/cable

When I started to backup dvd's I used this method but I hav a Digital Camcorder with Analogue to digital Passthrough, with a firewire card in the PC. It produced ok results but recently I purchased a dvd-rom drive for the PC and using EaszyVCD I am getting great results.

    Thanks

  6. Rosha you can do this with any capture card. But for for less than $50 mail order you can get a DVD-ROM drive and rip the DVD directly to the HD with ZERO quaility lost. Ripping is just easier and faster than capturing.

Since the source is digital why not keep it that way. Check http://www.pricewatch.com (the Lite-on is a good drive).

Just out of curiousity, would you not wind up with one humungous file, capping a DVD? I know that when I capped some fairly short VHS tapes, I wound up with 4 gig, and most of the DVDs I've ripped were 3+ to 8 gig, up to 3 hour movies. With my Pinnacle card, the result was rather poor. I much prefer my DVD-ROM drive.
Now, if I ever get my MSI TV@nywhere card to cap the sound, with hardware MPEG 1, 2 and 4, things might be different.
Have to start a thread to try to get help with it. Some one must know what my prob is.
Vejita-sama, the above is referring to your comment. I think you're right.

You need only a DVD drive - a writer is only needed if (when) you want to create a DVD.
Compare to CD reader vs CD writer.

PS2 games can be backed up, but not played, unless you "chip" your PS2. Your DVDs can be backed up and playable on any DVD player (that supports DVD+/-R) with a DVD writer and the software and knowledge gathered here at this site.
