    Hi:

Okay, I have a dvd player and as well as two vcrs but unfortunately my television isn't one of the newer models with 4 AV Inputs on the back, I only have two rows of AV inputs and one other row with only the left and right inputs(red/white). I have the two vcrs connected to the two AV inputs and if I want to use the DVD player I have to unplug one of the vcrs and plug in the DVD cables which is a MAJOR hassle.

I bought a S-Video cable mistakenly thinking that just using that would allow me to plug my dvd player to the television and boy was I wrong. The video part worked fine but there was no sound.

My question is what cable along with the s-video cable do I need to connect the dvd player to my television? Remember I only have two complete AV Inputs.

Another question is that some type of adapter on the market maybe at Radio Shack or some place else that would allow me to add another AV Input to the back of my televison.

    Help please!

You need a video switch, like this. It will switch the video and audio inputs at the same time.

S-video is video only, connect the audio with red and white RCA cables. It is also much better quality than composite video (the yellow cable).

Tossed the manual? Can't find a model number?

Generic answer would be the S-video input is grouped with A/V one input and you would plug audio in there after removing the VCR cables. They usually draw a line around the grouped inputs.

    Hi ZippyP:

    Thanks for the advice.

To be honest I actually had a Philips audio/video selector which allowed you to connect 4 different devices but when I plugged everything up it wasn't working correctly. Let me explain; I had the Philips AV Selector component plugged to one of the AV Inputs on the back of the television and then I plugged both my vcrs and the one dvd player to the Philips AV selector. The one I purchased had an automatic sensor as well as manual etc controls but after plugging in all the stuff only one video channel was showing up and it would alternate between both vcrs, the dvd wasn't showing up at all. After cursing the the Philips Product I unplugged everything and returned the faulty item to the store the next day and got my money back.

You said I need the red/white attachment right? I will have to get one as right I only have the cables with yellow/red/white.

While I still have your attention let me ask this, does the type of S-Video cable matter? What I mean is that I have one by Philips and it's supposed to be lined with silver or something and allegedly that's supposed to be better quality than just a regular ole S-Video cable. Is that true or did I waste my money?

    Hi edDV:

I will be going downtown tomorrow and will purchase a red/white cable then.

    Thanks for the advice!

Not much, if at all, as far as picture quality is concerned.
