  1. Can anyone recommend a unit or something so i can bypass the macrovison on this VHS tape. I heard Fry's sold something, but i went there, and they said they have not sold that in like 2 years. SO if anyone can recommend something or a site, i would REALY appreciate it.

  2. I use a Data Video TBC-1000 time base corrector, you can find one online for around $290. Not only does it strip macrovision, but its very effective at stabilizing the picture on older VHS tapes. This little device is worth its weight in gold.

  4. Right, this is how I used to do it, don;t know if it's crap what I am talking but it appeared to work for me.

Play the tape on a tv video combi

Hook up to standalone vcr and record

The standalone reads the other tape as recording of tv and hey presto !!!

Been a few years since I have done that, has any one else done that before ?, or am I just special !!!!

How about playing the VHS on the TV and then cableing the Composite Video out and Sound out from the TV to your capture device? Don't know if this will eliminate it or not but might be worth a try.

Uhhh .... I just bought one online and it didn't work. I have tried everything I can't think of and find the answer. I'm thinking it may have something to do with too low a signal .... but I'm just guessing. I'm doing another post to see if someone else has some more "guesses".

Yeah I have two of them and worth every penny they charge. Funny thing is nowhere on the packaging or manual does it say a thing about macrovision.

  10. The disabling of macrovision is a "side effect" of cleaning the image.
    Or so they say .

Did not work for me. Sent it back, bought a TBC and everything is fine now.
