Hey all. I have a Sony DCR-PC101 MiniDV camcorder and I am going to be using a lot in the upcoming month for a wedding and stuff like that. I was just wondering what everyone's opinion is on the best MiniDV tapes. I know there's a whole bunch out there and I don't know if there's any difference between them or if some are better than others. So any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Also if you could point me to a link where i would be able to get the best quality tapes that would help also. I know that high quality tapes aren't going to be cheap, but if there isn't much different in quality between say the highest quality and one below that then let me know that also. Thanks a lot for your help in advance!

  3. When I bought my Sharp digital camcorder about a year ago I did a lot or researching. At that time the Sony DV 60EXM ME was listed the best. I found a web store selling them for $10 each and bought a pack of 5 for under $60 with shipping. I have used nothing else to compare them with but I am very happy with the results.

  5. Sony tape often jams in my Canon ZR-10. i'm going to have the guides aligned and see if that helps. i have good luck with TDK, Panasonic, or Fuji tapes. no jams, no data loss.

  6. I have had good luck with the Panasonic LP. I buy them on ebay for about 3 buck a piece (pack of 10 or 20). I have use a bunch of them without problems. One of them I have taped over and over at leat a dozen times without problems.

  7. I don't think there are much diffence between DV tapes. Some claim that they have a chip in the tape but I am not sure what it does. Maybe the quality becomes obvious when you use 3 CCD camcorder which is over $2000.

I've been using Sony, TDK, Maxell, Panasonic and found them equally good. So go with the cheapest. (probably around $3 a piece) If you can find it cheaper than this, let me know.

I have heard it really doesnt matter. I use sony with no problem. I have also heard it is best to stick to one brand only. There can be different chemicals on the tapes that may mix and cause your heads to stick. Also minidv tapes may have some grooves in different places that interfere with each other. Clean the heads before switching brands and just go with a name brand. I suggest sony. Other brands like tdk seem cheap.
