  1. I've been trying for some time to put the vcd episodes i got on a dvd to same space. I tried all the quides arround but keep getting running into the same problem: the bottom part of some of the videos has blurring and blocks.

I tried a couple of things:
    1. reencoded the vcd with tmpgenc -> blurring and blocking where still there
    2. used svcdtodvd to demultiplex -> blurring and blocking where still there
    3. reencoded the vcd to mpeg2 in 352x240 -> couldn't compile the dvd in Maestro.
    4. reencoded the vcd to mpeg2 in 720 x 480 -> no blurring but the quality was to bad.

Are there other options i can try..

Check your files: MPEG1 VCD at 1150 min to 1856 max bitrate? 352x240? With 48hz audio? Closed GOPs? To be on DVD, the MPEG1 or MPEG2 files must be compliant, and there are max and min settings for each.

How much of the bottom is blurred? Can you see it on tv? Did you make these yourself? Probably just noise that'll be cut off by your tv anyway. Test it (the new DVD) in a standalone player. You can always CLIP the frame to make it go away, but odds are you only see it on the computer.

Most tapes have errors where you cannot see them on tv. The computer screen is larger. You see it all.

Try this, then post results again.

  3. The mpegs are the right format. Which are made on a profesional system by a friend of mine. And all the same but some have the blur and some don't

I can't cut the noise at the bottom cause it isn't there in the origonal mpg or the preview in maestro.

I never play the dvd on my computer but on my standalone dvd player.

What does the demuxed mpv look like - is this blurred? Or is it only after authoring? Can we have a *small* screenshot?

  5. Chrissyboy,

I'm looking forward to trying your program.

I am having trouble ripping my VCDs using the latest version of VCDEasy (it doesn't seem all that straight forward). Can I use Isobuster to rip them to mpg and then use your program to produce DVD mpegs?

Also, you say not to join files together or split them, is that a problem with audio sync or what?

    Thanks,

    Bigbus

@bigbus01: Without hijacking this thread, quick answers:

i recommend vcdeasy to rip from physical cdr but isobuster probably does the job (never used it). What you are after is .bin files (cd images) or proper svcd mpegs. Use svcd2dvdmpg thereafter...

mpegs have a structure which is makes any manipulation error prone. If you can aviod it, don't do it. Most programs that have these features do the best they can. None will be perfect 100% of the time. You are right, audio sync issues are the most common problems.

  7. My process:
    1. rip cd with vcdgear
    2. demux the mpg with tmpenc.
    3. encode the mp2 to a 48mhz ac3 with besweet
    4. author the dvd with maestro.
    5. burn with nero.

The problem is i can't give you a screencap of the problem cause it occurs on my standalone dvd player. The video is fine until after i compile it with maestro to video_ts and burn it with nero before that none of the videos have the problem.

ok - i just had a wierd on myself. VCD -> mpeg 1 + AC3. Into Maestro - preview looks good. Compile. VIDEO_TS in WINDVD looks good. Burn to DVDR. Looks good in WINDVD again. In standalone rubbish!! Tryied the same movie with mpeg layer 2 audio. No problems....

I'm thinking AC3 & MPEG-1 Video compatablity issue? AC3 & MPEG-2 is no problem..... Is it BeSweet AC3 module?(I know that it is considered immature - even by the author).

So yf2010usa - have you tried with mpeg audio(48K)?

That will be Sonic Foundry SoftEncode. Yes i didn't think it was violating DVD standards.... I'll quote you a message from DSPGuru when i asked him if i could offer AC3 encoding via BeSweet in SVCD2DVDMPG...

ac3 encoding is done in BeSweet using the 'ac3enc' module which is completely immature. MOST of the users who tried to author ac3 audio for dvd using the 'ac3enc' module weren't satisfied. (quality issues, compatabilty issues, etc'...)
    so there you go... pity.
