I am just starting with digital video editing using a minidv camcorder. I also have old 8mm tapes I would like to convert to DVD. In terms of capturing, does it matter if I use Win 2000 Pro or Win XP to do the job? Which one would do better? Need feedback since I currently am using Win2000 Pro and would rather not buy Win XP Home if they would have the same performance.
Thanks for any suggestions.
My Digital Editing PC includes:
Abit BH7 MB
P4 2.4Ghz 533
512 PC2700 Ram
Toshiba SD5002 DVDR Burner
120G 8MB Cache 7200 IDE Drive - Dedicated to capturing video
15G IBM 7200 IDE Drive for programs
Regards,
Ray

XP is reguarded (by most) as the best and stablest OS, although it is pretty much the same as 2000. So if your doing ok with 2000 then dont worry about switching. As they say, if it aint broke dont fix it.
Or then again there is Linux, but thats a whole other story -
I have found no reason to upgrade my machines from 2000 to XP. I say, stay with what you have.

win2k and winXP are bought build on winNT, so if you have no problems why change. If you don't already run NTFS thou I would switch over. Digitial video (esp uncompressed) takes up lots of space and you will exceed the 4GB fat32 limit. There are ways around this, but it's much easier to work with NTFS.

I would agree also, if Win2000 is working well for you then theres really no need to swtich over. I have XP Professional, and i deemed it necessary for me because it has dual processor support. When I built my new computer system that's what I went with--might as well have the best to start with. I also installed it on my laptop, because when I bought it it was preloaded with that joker Windows ME, which i HATED.....but in your case, Win2000 will work just as good.
