Just saw this item added to one of my distributor's inventory lists, no estimated release date was shown. Wondering if this is a rebranded Sony drive.

Description: The Liteon DVD-Dual/CD ReWritable drive features a 4X Max DVD-R and +R Write, 2X DVD-RW Rewrite, 2.4x Max DVD+RW Rewrite, and 8x Max DVD-ROM Reading. 24x Max. CD-R write, 10X Max CD-RW Rewrite and 32X Max Cd-ROM reading. Conforms to DVD specifications and DVD+R/+RW 4.7 GB basic format specifications. 8MB Buffer size with a 250ms access time on DVD disc and 300 ms on cd disc.

My Computer distributor have listed it also.. but no price and avalability is not before June..

Is the price Canadian or US ? if it'S US, then it will help me to choose the LG drive

Lite-On manufacturs its own drives and it will use MediaTek DSPs and Sanyo PUHs. Lite-On will release both DVD+R/RW writers and DVD±R/RW writers. The former should be released in June while the latter might be delayed to August. All according to Digitimes.

I've seen the following three other model numbers mentioned besides LDW-400D: LDW-401D, LDW-401S and LDW-421S but I'm not sure about the specifications.

my understanding is that Lite-on is a rebadge outfit. here in the states a lite-on drive is not a r&d effort. not sure how this plays into dvd-r+r drives as it relates to today's technology. perhaps thev've stepped up their r&d efforts.

Lite on makes their own drives, in fact in the US a number of CD-RW manufactuers are buying liteon drives and rebadging them for their own needs.

I've owned 3 liteon drives so far and to my knowledge not one has been another brands rebranded drive.
