  1. I have downloaded the trial version of Ulead's DVD MovieFactory 2. I am having trouble with the menu to be able to select chapters. I am going to try and explain this clearly so I will be understood.

    I start DVD MovieFactory 2.

I choose Start Project / New Project / VCD / Next

Add Video / select a VCD compliant MPEG file

Add Chapter / Auto / Add chapters at fixed intervals 3 minutes / OK / OK

    checkmark Create menu / Next

change 'Currently displayed menu' to chapter display to verify chapters do exist. They do.

checkmark Add chapter menu / Next

This brings us to the Preview with the DVD controls panel at the bottom of the screen. On the Preview screen is a single frame with the movie in it and a single play icon like this ">". Play is the only selection. On the DVD control panel, the number keys, play, and stop are enabled. Nothing else.

Now to the point of my question. How do I get to the chapters submenu? I have burned this VCD and played in my DVD player and it works fine but I am not able to get to the chapters submenu. I put the VCD in the player, the previously described Preview screen comes up, but the only button that can be chosen is Play.

I have read through many of the posts here and have found references to similar issues but they seemed to deal with issues once the VCD was put in the DVD player. I am saying that I cannot choose the chapters even while making the VCD at the point of Preview in DVD MovieFactory.

Have I explained this clearly enough? I do like this application and I am ready to buy it but I want to make sure this works before I commit to it.

Ulead won't answer any questions on this because it is a Trial but if the Trial does not work then why would I buy it?

Am I doing something wrong or is there something wrong with DVD MovieFactory?

    Thanks

  2. ok, i kind of get what your saying, and the answer is simple. When you play a VCD, it is not like a DVD where you can press the up or down arrow to go to different chapters. In a VCD, you have to use the numbers on your remote to choose each chapter. When you are previewing it in moviefactory, just press play, and then press a number of a chapter. I hope this was your problem.....Please tell me if it worked..

  3. I'm not at home to try that right now, but I am pretty certain that I have tried that repeatedly. Are we saying that it is not possible to access the chapters submenu?

  4. Ok, i don't think i understand what you mean. But to get back to the menu in a VCD, you have to press the 'return' button on the remote. I'm not sure if you already know this??

If you have tried all the buttons on your remote, then i'm stuck for ideas. I personally use Ulead DVD Moviefactory 2 for creating vcd with a menu. I have my own background image and music. I think it is a really easy and good tool to use for this. As for your question...i'm still a bit confused...?????

  5. I knew that this was going to be hard to describe, that is why I detailed the steps I took to create the issue. As I said previously, prior to burning the VCD, while still in DVD MovieFactory, at the Preview screen, there is only one button on the Preview screen, the ">" Play button. There is no Home button or other navigation buttons or any clear method to select the chapters submenu. The Preview screen's purpose is to display your menus so that you can approve of the way it's working prior to burning the VCD. If it does not work at this point, I do not see how it could work once it is burned and placed in the DVD player. And it does not, I know from experience.

Perhaps you could demonstrate to me your VCD menus by giving me a working sequence of steps that I can re-create in DVD MovieFactory to make the chapters accessible. Once again, this is at the Preview screen, prior to burning the VCD.

I tried to say this as clearly as possible. Hopefully you can help me out with this.

    Thanks

  6. Ok......
First i start with a new vcd project
Then after pressing next, i add my video (which is already in VCD format).Lets say i add 3 episodes of the simpsons. To do this I go to 'Add video" 3 seperate times.
Before clicking next, i make sure that the 'create menu' tab is ticked.
Then after pressing 'next' i add my background music and template etc to my menu until it is what i want.
Then after pressing next, i am in the preview screen. At the moment the screen is black with a white ULEAD logo. The only option is to press >
After pressing > i can now press 1,2 or 3 to go to each episode. To get back to the menu, i press the arrow that is in the bottom left corner of the number pad.
I was just thinking.....If you are using the trial.....do you know its limitations???? Some trials won't let you do certain things. Go back to where you got it and check what limitations it has. Maybe it doesn't have any.
    I hope this helps,
    Cheers,

  7. Trish,

Thank you Very much for you input. When I followed you example, it help clear it up for me. In your message, you said:
    *************************
    press 1,2 or 3
    *************************
All this time, I have been mouse-clicking on the preview or using navigation keys. On my DVD remote control, I have been using the navigations keys (up, down, left, right) and Enter trying to select chapter submenu without success. I also tried the number keys in the past but I must not have been waiting long enough the the player to respond. You have to enter '1', and then pause long enough for the chapters to load before pressing other buttons.

So my submenus are now working for me and I just wanted to say Thank You for your help.
