I've recently noticed some things about mp2 encoders I've been using. They all introduce some kind of high-pitched noise. In BeSweet, with MP2ENC, it has been the worst by making this horrible high pitched ring that isn't very nice. TooLame(v.02i and .02k) also has a similar problem but the noise is quieter and a more even tone. TMPG also produced a noise similar to TooLame's. I've tried raising the bitrate from 224 to 384 in TooLame and that made almost no difference. I've also tried 44.1kHz and 48kHz sampling frequencies and I get close to the same result. I've also tried joint-stereo and normal stereo with normal stereo being slightly worse. Has anyone else heard these noises and from what encoders? Does anyone know of an encoder (or settings) that doesn't do this or you think produces the least amount of artifacts? By the way, my source was a 2-channel 192kbps DD track on a dvd converted to 48kHz .wav with DVD2AVI then converted to 44.1kHz with two-pass in SSRC.
