  1. When I try to open a file in Virtualdub, I get this error.

MPEG Import Filter: pack synchronization error

Does anyone know what is causing this and how I can fix it. I'm trying to convert a MPEG file to AVI.
    Thank you. Scott

you need either the mpeg2 version of v-dub (i think in tools) or load the mpeg file into dvd2avi first and (save it to avi directly as an option) or save project and load that project into vfapi and create fake avi - load fake avi into v-dub and save to real avi ...

any method above takes only seconds really (with a quick machine) ..

you could also load mpeg into TMPGenc and save it as an avi

or load it into TMPGenc , save project , load project into VFAPI and make fake avi , and load fake avi into v-dub and save as real avi ..

many ways to get to the same end ..

This worked! Thank you. I am currently converting a MPEG to AVI with Virtualdub mpeg2 version. It is a 30 min clip and conversion estimated at 22 min. I just got a 2.0GHz Celeron processor..Thanks again
