  1. Is it just me that Nero sux at VCD burning? I got some weird jerky sound after burned with Nero, but it was perfect on CDRWin.

Anyone what's the problem there? Or maybe cuz the burning speed? For Nero I used 32X and 20X on CDRWin. I haven't tried Nero at lower speed cuz I don't want to waste another cdr disk again. LOL, it costs me 15 cdr disk just to figure out the Nero problem.

Does the burning speed really effect the quality of outcome? In any case, what's the optimum speed for VCD burning?

  2. Are you using Nero just for burning or are you letting (re)encode your video. Coz its encoder sux but its burning engine is fine for me.

Yes, the burning engine's fine, the authoring engine sucks, and the encoding engine isn't even worth mentioning. Use the right tool for the right task: TMPGEnc to encode, VCDEasy to author (and burn if your hardware is supported by CDRDAO) and Nero to burn the VCD cue/bin from VCDEasy.
As to speeds, my personal rule of thumb is "max half of CD-R/burner max rating; whichever is lowest". Opinions on this may vary.

  5. So far I'm finding that with Nero simple burning (without encoding) does the job for both VCDs and SVCDs. DVD MovieFactory burns well too (with menus + chapters). I agree with mats.hogberg on the burning rate to half the max for the CDRW drive. Burners rate differently, with some underrated and many overrated, and it's best to keep well within the safe limits. Doing work (while burning) in the background may also cause a glitch in your recordings, so do light work if anything.

I have yet to try VCDEasy but I hear it's great.

Once you go back to VCDEasy, you won't ever go back to Nero for (S)VCD authoring. Plus with VCDEasy, you can add chapters and stuff.

  9. Thanks puertorican138.

I've read the VCDEasy tutorial several times in fact and liked what I saw in regards to it's menu and chapter features. I'll give it a go on my next projects. :P
