  1. What is the best software to capture from my VCR and then burn it to DVD? I have a Hauppaugge TV capture card and a Pioneer A05 DVD Burner. Also, when I capture it, what format should I capture the video into for best quality(AVI etc...)???

    Thanks a bunch!

  2. Use VirtualDub and for video compression, the Huffyuv codec. This requires a big hard drive(80GB). Otherwise use the Divx codec for compression. Works great for me

Did you not get a capture program with your Hauppauge capture card?
I have the WinTV-PVR-250 that came with WinTV 2000 that captures from TV and VCR. Its all you need along with your DVD burner. You can d/l the latest WinTV 2000 from Hauppauge.com. Also d/l the manual. It will let you capture in 3 DVD formats, MPEG1 and MPEG2 for VCD and SVCD. For AVI capture you need tons of hard drive space.

I have tried all sorts of programs...VirtualDub would never capture for me...So none worked as well as what came with my card (studio7)...But I do capture in AVI and the files are very large.....seems like it takes a couple of gb every 10-15 minutes of capture.

Files that large always take forever to edit....so I would then use VirtualDub to convert these files to more compressed ones....using low loss avi...like Divx...then work with those and TMPG for final product.

Key here.....With all the different computer setups, cards, software and compatability issues....Your tried and true method may only work for one out of a 1000 people..and theirs may never work for you. Capture 15 minutes different ways and experiment with final product...before commiting to the large project.
