  1. ok here is the deal...it took me a lot of experimenting to get XVIDs to play on my machine in the first place. i tried different combinations of Nimo, Xvid, and Divx codecs, however, the ONLY thing that worked was uninstalling all of those and using only ffdshow. Unfortunately, i am in need of cutting a select XVID. I used to use virtualdub for DivX but now i cannot get it to work with XVIDs. i receive a message that says:

"couldn't locate decompressor for format XVID (unknown). VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. Direct Show codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player,
    are not suitable."

In an attempt to remedy this i installed the XVID codec in addition to the ffdshow...this made the sound but not the picture work on all XVIDs. Is there another tool to cut XVIDs that might work with my codec situation.

Try downloading the Nimo Codecs Package as that comes with a XvID codec and decompressor. NCP is in the Tools Section to your left under Codecs.

    First link >>>XviD-04102002-1.exe

tis all you need for xvid

That link ^ should allow you to.

If not, try installing the 'VFAPI Reader' in the tools section on this site under 'other useful tools'
