Wasteing bits on DIVX > SVCD

If you have a DivX/Xvid movie with, lets say, 800 kbps in bitrate. And if you are going to convert it to SVCD, what bitrate should you use without wasteing bits and CD?
I mean, the SVCD can not be any better than the original (so if the Divx/XviD has macroblocks, you will het macroblocks in your SVCD no matter what bitrate you use, right?)

Yes, the SVCD definately will have macroblocks if the DivX has macroblocks.

You should always use the highest bitrate possible depending on the length of the movie and the number of CD's you decide to use. VBR encoding provides the most efficient use of bits in order to keep filesize to a minimum. As well, movies with a lot of action demand a higher bitrate in order to maintain quality. I think you should keep your average bitrate high enough to at least maintain the same quality as the source, no sense creating more blocks! I don't like going below 1800 b/s avg. (2-pass VBR, 1100 min., 2500 max.) but will go to 1600 for low action if necessary. It really is personal choice/experience and keep in mind, CD's are cheap.
