  1. Hi,

    I'm new to video capturing.
I'm thinking about an easy (and affordable) solution to capture my Hi8 videos and create (s)VCD's.
My idea was to get an TV-card (i.e. Pinnacle PCTV) with a video-in line and capture the video using VirtualDub or something like that.

The problem is I only have a P3-700 so my question is:
Will this system work for the above tasks? Are there any other possibilities? I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on a video capturing card.

By the way, is the Pinnacle card a good choice or are there better ones?

    Thanks in advance

    Marcus

P.S.: Sorry for my bad english...

  3. I am going to try capturing Hi8 from my camcorder using a p3-850 MHz computer. I just got the Leadtech card from NewEgg for $55. It works well as a tuner and FM radio, but I haven't gotten a chance to record with it yet. I hope to sometime this week. Others using it here have posted good results.

  5. I have been getting very good results with my old computer. I run at 566 mHz Celeron processer. I have captured with Virtual Dub with very little frame loss at 480 X 480. My capture card is an ATI TV Wonder VE. Very cheap, I think it cost me less than 40 bucks!! I capture AVI format in V-Dub then encode to mpeg using TMPGEnc. These are both free to download and use. (See the tools section of this website) Then burn to VCD with your favorite burning program. I use VCDEasy, also a free program, and it works greaat. I was new to this several months ago, and this site has certainly helped me along the way. There are some great guides here also that can help you. Good luck and let me know if there is anything else you want to know and I'll see if I can help you!!
