  1. I am trying to play an XVID movie that I have and the video plays fine but there is no sound. I have played other XVIDs fine on this computer but this one does not work for some reason.

There was a directory labelled subs in with the release. Am I supposed to do something with those to get the audio to work? What are they for?

I am trying to play through PowerDVD and the XVID is AC3 encoded if that makes a difference. I believe that PowerDVD is supposed to handle AC3 and downmix or something.

Any help would be great..... thx

  2. Download "Gspot" and open the avi. It will give you the file information such as the codec's used during encoding and if they are installed. If the audio codec is installed try to uninstall it and download a new AC3 codec. Personally I do not like codec packs like Nimo, but prefer to individually install the codecs I need. You can also try to use another video player, I have found real player to work well with XVID and ac3 audio.

  3. Thanks for the help! Gspot works great and I found the right CODEC to install to fix my audio problems....

BTW, is there any easy way in WINXP to install/remove CODECs?

Xvids with Ac3 sound? I made a alternative guide to do this; using Panasonic & Cillers ac3tool.
