  1. I am going from my VHS player into my Hitachi DVDCAM (DZMV230A) using the included RCA connector. I can capture the video and audio fine, except an occassional "flicker" or distortion on the top of the screen similar to what a VHS tape looks like when the tracking is a bit off. The image plays OK through the TV, but only looks this way when capturing with the DVDCAM. Hitachi has said to try and adjust the VHS tracking or capture at a different mode (I am using Fine now). They also said that this is "normal" when going from VHS to digital. Does anyone have any ideas?

    evening sgalli,

    This is normal with VHS (and other sources too, but depends) anyways..

    when you are ready to encode your captured VHS (or firewired) your
    next step is to cut or trim those lines off with an AVS script or w/ vdub.

    I prefer to use vdub, cause I'm most comfortable, but there are many
    different ways of doing this.

    Once those lines are cut/trimmed, you can finally encode your clip.

    .. .. ..Or

    if you want to go straight into TMPG, then you can use TMPG's:
    * settings/Advanced/[x]Clip frame
    * depending where the noise is (top or bottom, left or right) you can use
    .. the top[ ] .. .. bottom[ ] etc fields and simply trim those areas.

    then, just encode.

    Well, have fun
