Is there any way to cut a DV avi in order to reduce size? That is, no second file should be involved.
Reason:Accidently I captured an avi which is far too big (30GB).The part, that I need is jsut the first 13GB of this file.As there is not enough space left on any of my HD, I'm wondering, if it's possible to cut (i.e set an EOF marker at a given frame and manipulate the avi headers). As the avi is a DV type-1 (frame and audio interleave on frame-base), it shouldn't be too difficult, as DV compresses on frame basis.Anyone did this or knows a program, which could do it or direct me, how to do it (in C++)?

  2. I think the easiest way is to delete that huge AVI file, then recapture again and make sure you only capture what you need.
VirtualDub can cut AVI file but it will generate another smaller one (13GB for one hour video). Since you don't have enough hard disk space, this will be a problem.

Recapture is not possible, it was a direct SAT capture.I can export what I need to my DCR, but I just thought, it would be faster, to cut it.
And yes, all know DV cutting proggies need a second file for output. That's why, I thought it could be done within the file,

  4. Im pretty sure Premiere will do it - just import the file, slap it on the timeline and use the razor tool...
