I tried searching but the search engine is not working.
I realize that a CVD is MPEG2 and the xVCD is Mpeg1 but if one was to use use the same bitrate (~2500) and resolution (352x480) and your DVD player can play either CVD or xVCD, would you see much of a difference in the quality or file size.
I ask because I am using PowerVCR and capturing CVD files but it is harder to edit MPEG2 than MPEG1 so if I captured as xVCD with CVD parameters, the editing would be easier. I also thought that I might shave some time off of the captured file length as well (maybe not).

Mpeg1 as DVD video MUST be 352x240.
