I created a VCD from an AVI file which was dowloaded off the net.
The film is in widescreen format.
Can the aspect be changed so that when i copy from avi to vcd it appears in full screen mode on my dvd player?
I have gone into the advanced settings in TMPGEnc and changed the 'video arrange method' to full screen but the outcome is always the same.

  2. Before you begin make sure you hit Ctrl+N and erase the previous settings. Then choose full screen.

    Hope it helps !

If you want your video file to be Full screen instead of Wide Screen, then select "No margin (keep aspect ratio) under the Advanced Tab next to Video arrange Method.

    Hope That Helps!!! :P

Thanks for the replies but i still can only view the film in the widescreen format.
I selected the "No margin (keep aspect ratio) under the Advanced Tab next to Video arrange Method but it still stays the same.
Is it because it was originally ripped in this format as i said i just downloaded the film of the net or shouldn't it matter?

    Try this:

    Source aspect ratio: 1:1 (VGA)
Video arrange Method: No margin (keep aspect ratio)

After selecting "No margin (keep aspect ratio)" go to Clip Frame in the filters section under the advanced tab and crop out those black bars that are making your video widescreen instead of full screen. :P

    Cheers i'll try that.

Just wondered if you have to re-encode after making any changes to the settings.

Also is there a way of getting rid of the subtitles, that in 2 languages on this film, or should i start another topic with this one

  10. I think I see the problem. It sounds like you're source is a DiVX file that has the black bars at the top and bottom ENCODED into the DivX file. If that's the cause you need to crop out the black bars and then resize (and if you want to keep the aspect ratio crop/cut off the right/left edges of the film too).

Remember that the only way to preserve aspect ratio is to either letterbox or cut off the left/right edges of the picture. Just pick which you'd prefer.

I'm sorry, but you have to re-encode again after croping out the big black bars.

You could crop the subtitles out if you want to remove them from the picture. :P

You might have to crop some more of the picture.
