aside from the additional cost of these, are they as reliable as single-sided's?
in particular, I want to know about the Ritek Primedisc ones, as the Pioneers are obscenely expensive.

These Primedisc double sideds are terrific! I use them constantly for long movies as well as other DVDs that I wish to condense. I have not had any problems with them and I get Fellows core labels to label the inner core of disc.

how do the core labels fit? is there any wierdness or overlap? can I use my present cd stomper to apply them?

They are core labels which means they start at the hole and stop where the main part of disc begins. It's small but plenty of room to fit movie titles. A normal CD stomper should be fine
