  1. I've got probs with my capturing. I've a fast 850 Athlon with a firewire TI 1394 card and a Canon Elura DV camera. Best results are a small screen on playback. Mid and large screens show lines and botchy/blocky video that even jumps a little at times. I've tried most other things. Help please!

  2. Is anyone willing to help? Is it possible that my video card is causing problems with the capture? The firewire seems to be working just fine but the playback is just not acceptable. I viewed a VCD test file from this site and it shows up just fine, thank you! But is the video card involved in the capture when using a firewire? Sure would like to know.

  3. where do you intend to play your 'final' video, on a standalone, or on your PC? And in what format is this blocky and jumpy file, is it the DV AVI?

Your video card has nothing to do with the actual file transfer from your camcorder to harddrive.

I am on a firewire setup also. And playing the DV AVIs on my PC does tend to be jumpy. And it is just the AVI being played on a PC, because the VCDs created from these AVIs run great on a standalone (that's where I intend to play the VCDs anyway).

    hope this helps.

  4. K- I didn't think the video card played into the picture (pardon the pun). The final video is intended to be put on a VCD and on single files on CD so it can be played on computers. Wedding video to be shared with relatives - not my wedding. The formats I have tried are .mov, .avi, and VCD. I fixed the jumpy part by setting my HD to DMA setting. But when I try to view it back in a large or full-screen view it is quite poor quality. Do I need a better firewire card or what?!

Thanks for the response. Hoping to find the solution...

  5. Your firewire card basically just provides a means for you to transfer DV to your PC. She has nothing to do with the quality, as conversion occurs in your camcorder.

Consider doing XVCDs instead, check the WHAT IS, and the HOW TO (I think) regarding this matter.

    hope this helps.

Dug, I think you had the same problem I had. Are you using a kt7 or similar board. The AMD chips have a problem playing back captured video. (Blocky and messed up video)You have to tweak the bios settings to get it to work properly. If you think this may apply to you, send me email me your fax # and I will send you the bios settings.

  8. Have tried several approaches and am wondering if someone has any more suggestions. Do I need to look at the BIOS settings or what?! The video playback still is the same with very poor quality. I did send the vido back to the camera and then played it back through the TV and it looks great! But anytime I try to work with the video to save it into another format it turns out terrible. Have tried Adobe Premier 6, Digital Origin's Intro DV, and VirtualDub. VirtualDub is not exactly userfriendly and have yet to be able to capture with it - any suggestions? Well, here's hopeing someone has another bright idea!

  9. I may have found the answer - is it the OS? I am using ME and have found another forum user who has had trouble with ME and video and maxing out the CPU. I am thinking to try another OS but which one?????!!!! I need it quick but would really like to wait for Win XP. Should I get a trial of Win 2k? Can I use my software that I use in Win ME in Win 2k? I had heard that Win ME and Win 98 programs do not run well in 2k.

    Any thots and/or suggestions?

    Hopeful, Doug
