I am using Premiere (V6.02), the Premiere Video Server Plugin from Videotools.net and TMPGEnc to create MPEG2 files for burning on DVD. The estimated time to complete a 2 hour video is close to 30 hours. Things work flawlessly. But 30 hours is way too long. Any ideas out there on why it takes so long? I think I must be missing a setting in Premiere or TMPEnc. I ran through the VideoTools tutorial - which is pretty straightforward.

This is funny. I was going to post pretty much the same topic. I'm trying to do a 45min movie. Using Tmpeg's 2-pass VBR it says its going to take around 9.5 hours (which is way too long.) It seems that the frameserver serves extremely slow. I could export the movie to an avi file and then 2-pass encode it in under 4hours.

I remember reading about this issue in the past. I have done a search on this site, but can find no reference to this problem. You will note that the estimated time in Premiere is about half of what TMPEnc says it will take (TMPEnc is closer to the truth). You would think that the problem lies with either Premiere or TMPGenc. The Videotools utility is just a server. Doing the same export from Premiere with Ligos or CCE yields a similiar (quicker) result - about 8 hours. I prefer TMPGend as it is more flexible. I used to export to AVI first then re-encode with TMPEnc - took too long. My goal is to encode in real time, but hey these hardware solutions are too pricy for me! I am anxious to see input from other Forum members. At least we have isolated the problem to more than one machine. Maybe Edwin at Videotools has some thoughts?

I finished my encode last night and it only took 6.5 hours versus the 9+ that Tmpeg had originally estimated. 6.5 is still a long time but its not too bad. I'm curious to hear what long your 2hr video actually took.

Sorry for the delayed response Poseur Dude. It took me about 18 hours. So something is awry. I'll be doing another one later on in the week. Let's see what that produces.
Appreciate the feedback - Les
