hi i have a couple questions. i have a samsung scd-67 mini dv camcorder and i want to put some vhs footage on to the dv tapes. teh problem is that this camera is a cheaper model and does not have an analog input on it. it does have the firewire 1394 interface and can capture digital footage from other digital sources. my first question is do they make a cable that would have rca plugs on one end and the dv part on the other end? i also have an older happauge wintv analog capture card, but the thing is that my computer isnt fast enough to capture high quality analog video. is there any way i could maybe hook up my vcr to my wintv card and play through the computer (but not capture it, just play through it) and then hook up my camera at the same time and record that video to my dv cam? i know this kinda sounds confusing so if u need more explination let me know

  2. The short answer is no.

The long answer is yes but you must get a DV capture card such as the Canopus ADVC-100 to convert your analog source to DV. I am not sure if you can hook up the ADVC-100 directly to your digital camcorder or, if you must, first import the DV to your computer and then export the DV to your digital camcorder. I am assuming that you can hook up the ADVC-100 directly to your digital camcorder. But since I don't have this product, I cannot confirm this.

P.S. I have a digital camcorder with a passthrough feature.

  3. Most camcorders (even the cheapest one) should have a way to connect to the tv using RCA jacks. Use the same RCA jacks and connect to VCR output. Check your camcorder settings and change it to receive input vs the current setting output to the television. (mines a Sony and I thought I wasn't able to do this also until I played with my camcorder a bit more).

  4. Most Sony digital camcorders have a "video in" and a passthrough feature (which means that you can send the vhs video signal through your camcorder to your computer without having to record to a miniDV tape as a first step). Unfortunately, his digital camcorder doesn't seem to have either of these features. Many Canon digital camcorders also have this "video in" and passthrough features.

If I was reading correctly, this is not true in Europe. But I don't remember why....

  6. Yes you are right. In Europe, the DV in and video in must sometimes be enabled through a widget. Using this widget on your camcorder voids the guarantee. The reasons for deactivating these features is that duties are less on digital camcorders that cannot act as a VCR so to speak.
