  1. I will be doing the above on my pc, but what is the best equipment for this. I will be using my camcorder as a passthru device from the vcr to the computers firewire port, then to DVD. But I need to have a VCR next to my pc. What is the best vcr for this purpose. I obviously want the best resolution etc etc. I may also be copying from my pc to VHS for certain reasons. Will any vcr do?

    Thanks

Any VCR will work, but the more heads the better the picture (supposedly). Get a VCR with 4 heads or more.
Also, make sure it is stereo, not mono.
And, obviously, RCA/Line inputs and outputs.

so many people ask for the "BEST" this or that ...

the best VHS unit you can buy will run you about $8000 --

assuming you dont want to spend that much - at least get a s-vhs and use the s-video connectors instead of the composite .

  4. JVC HRS3911U has worked well for me. It's a 4-Head SVHS unit and is listed for $150 at CircuitCity.

I got it for the s-video connection. I'm not sure what the best is but s-video made a perceptable difference to me.

If you want to go from pc to vhs, I would think you would come across a number of quality issues. What's a good way to do that and not kill the quality? Xcard to svhs tapes? How much are those tapes anyway? More than a DVD-R?
