  1. I ripped a video from a vhs tape into an mpeg2 file. Does anybody have a good idea or link on what format, size, codec, etc to use for the webpage? I'm mostly interested in a file that will be able to be streamed for a modem user. I already have a higher quality version for broadband users. Any help will be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Steve

Do you have a streaming server then ? If not then they are just going to download and play, popular are Quicktime .mov and Realmedia .rm

realmedia - as being also poor quality -- requires you to download realplayer .. somewhat of a spyware ..

quicktime is great though -- excellent quality ..

What are you talking about, there is nothing wrong with the quality of Realmedia, unless you shrink it down for non streaming html web sites

true - real media can be ok .. but as i administer several large video streaming and video clip download sites , i have found that when it comes to re-use, encodes, lic issues, quality and compatibility - that real media falls short ... in short , our clients don't want it either ...

i am not alone in this - a search on google shows several other large media groups with the same feelings. :

    Which one should I use?
Here at broadcastgroup.com, we have had extensive experience with RealMedia and Windows Media systems, and we prefer to use Windows Media when we have the choice. We are in no way "Micro$laves", we just honestly feel that the quality you get is better than a comparable RealMedia solution, and it costs less to boot. The Real Server software has a 25 user license so we are limited as far as how many clients we can host with each Real Server. The Windows Media servers have no such stipulation. Furthermore, all the Windows Media encoding tools can be had for no cost, as opposed to the RealMedia Composer tools.
