  1. I was wondering if there is any 4x dvd-r media that will actually burn at 4x in the Sony DRU-500A, the ones I have now is supposed to be 4x but they only burn at 2x I purchased that media from Hyper Microsystems they are some Ritek's.

    Thx

  2. I'm sure that when you get your hands on TDK or Memorex 4x they will most likely work.

Ritek 4X media writes at 4X on my Sony DRU 500A. I have burned both data and movies without a single coaster. I am using the "f" firmware. If you search the internet you can find these blanks for as low as $1.79 each in bulk.

Have Anyone had a chance to get a hold of Verbatim 4X DVD+R media. I just recieve an email from http://www.supermediastore.com. They are now offering their 4x Verbatim DVD+R for $6.50 each. I try to search on the web for other merchant that carry it, so far no luck. I probably would try some of those just to see the quality of it on my Sony DRU500A

Since I purchased my Sony DRU500A, I have kept track across several forums relative to media that has been verified to work and also media that has given problems. The "old" Verbatum DVD-R's 1X and 2X have both given problems. Verbatum has since fixed their problem and there are now positibve reports for the following Verbatum media:
    DVD-R 1X
    DVD-RW 1X
    DVD+R 2.4X
    DVD+R 4X
These are the only Verbatums that I have found so far that work. There may be others, but I have not read any confimed reports.

So to answer your question, unless you have a system problem or a hardware conflict, The Verbatum DVD+R 4X WILL work in your Sony.

My only question is why would you want to pay five or six dollars for a 4X +R when you can get a 4X -R for $1.89? But that is none of my business. Hope this info helps.

  8. I also try to follow media for the SonyDRU500A. I've read a few places where users can burn 4x ok, but they aren't able to read them in there stand alone units. With the 2x DVD's, they're ok.

I'm sticking with 2x for now.

  9. Dre @dvdplusrw.org wrote that Bestbuy is now selling Verbatim 4x DVD+R:

    50-pack Spindle: $99.99
    9-pack + 1 DVD+RW with Jewel Cases: $29.99
    5-Pack with Jewel Cases: $14.99

    That's a bit cheaper than supermediastore's $6.50...
