Hi!
I used to capture with an old WinTV and VirtualDub using PicMjpeg. 25 lost frames per movie were normal. Hard drive activities caused by other programs running while capturing did NOT cause any additional dropped frames.
I could even capture while TMpeg converted another file at the same time. And everything was running on a computer with 1GHz Duron, SDRam and a 5400rpm hard drive. The system was solid as a rock.
Now I bought a Terratec Cinergy 400 (SAA7134 chip), because the WinTV was mono and the SAA-chip has a 9-bit A/D conversion for better video quality. And there are only WDM drivers.
Every program I use was very sensitive to hard drive activities and produced lots of dropped frames. The most stable programs I found are FLY2000TV and iuVCR, which cause approx. 90 dropped frames if no other program runs while capturing.
Are the Terratec drivers buggy or is it just the WDM system that is quite useless for capturing?
Are there any VfW drivers available for SAA7134 cards?
