Problem understanding ffmpegX0.0.6?

ffmpegx0.0.6 looks like a great program, but I don't know how to use it.
Is there a pdf file or site that will explain how ffmpegx0.0.6 works?
I have extracted vob files from a dvd and have tried putting these files though ffmpegx.0.0.6 and everytime I use the program I alway get different results.
I really need help

There'a a manual on top of this forum (sticky).
There's also a guide from SCB. I used it and it worked.
It's a guideline for ffmpegX 0.0.4 or 0.0.5.
There's hardly any difference, try it.
Sorry it's for SVCD no DivX.
