why is researching the specifications for HDTV's so difficult?
can anybody point me to a website that will discuss the fine points?
i can go to the manufacturers websites and look up the tech specs... but after doing so with a toshiba model and a sony model- they both looked great on paper.
seeing them in person at my local home theater retailer was completely another story.
for instance: what is the significance of contrast ratio? why would a particular HDTV need 720P as opposed to 720i/480P, and would it make a difference when displaying a movie from a progressive DVD player? why did i see macro-blocking on one monitor but not the other when playing the same DVD (during high motion sequences)?
something like 'DVD demystified' for HDTV monitors would be great... right now the only thing i have to go on is buy SONY's most expensive model.
