I've been looking for info on HDTV tuner cards, and here is what I've come up with:

There seems to be 3 basic designs using similar chipsets

    - ones that use a vga feed through e.g. accessDTV

    - ones that do not e.g. wintv HDTV

    - software driven units e.g. ATI

It also seems that this technology is about 2 to 3 years old. So, where are all the cards? Here is an interesting clip I found:
Ravisent marketing manager Lori Crenny said the software will be sold with Conexant's $150 HDTV tuner card as an alternative to buying a TV, which can cost several thousand dollars. The company said its software requires 600 MHz or faster PCs.
from http://www.wired.com/news/technology/0,1282,35926,00.html again I ask, so where are all the cards? Anyway, he are a bunch of the links I found, please add to them as you find them.

Would you mind if I used this information on my website?

I'm interested in putting together an article on HDTV.
If you've got anything else, let me know.

Absolutely put this info on your site. It will just make it easier for other people to find. I'll look up some other things to put in there too. The above info was geared towards capture/tuner cards, but I can find much info on HDTV, including the "formal" specs and maybe channel line-ups for the continental US.

    YOUR ATTTENTION PLEASE

I found this about the accessDTV card:

The PVR (Personal Video Recorder) functionality included in the software also worked as promised. I was able to record several episodes of my favorite shows by simply clicking the PVR button on the top of the accessDTV remote and clicking "Record". You should keep in mind that recording HiDef signals takes a LOT of hard drive space! I'm talking 4.5gigs every half-hour! Oh, and all of you fans of video encoding or owners of DVD recorders, the accessDTV card encrypts the recorded files and they can only be played back on the card that recorded the programs. Although some of you will complain about this fact, it keeps accessDTV from running into lawsuits with the Motion Picture Association of America. You should note that the accessDTV card cannot record analog sources at this juncture.

Rule this sucker out of the running in my search!
