Hi ya'll!
I've recently bought a Hercules Smart TV card with both Composite and S-video in connectors.
I'm using a program called Power VCR II (the one that came with the card).
I'm having some troubles getting a decent picture when using an s-video cable. The problem is that the picture is black and white!! With composite cable this is not a problem.
However, I only have a short piece of composit cable and 15 meters of s-video... so i'd rather use the longer calbe (since I've got the computer in another room)...
What should I do? I've tried different PAL versions, none of them with any colorsShould I try a s-video->composit adapter or something?
Help is much appreciated![]()

yes, for some reason s-vhs connnections come up in bw,
not sure why, i just use the composite plug, can get one
at radio shack or whatever i believe... -
Are you sure you have made the proper selection in the capture program. Make sure that the capture program is choosing the S-video input. In my system I get B&W output when the capture card source is set to TV instead of s-video. I'm not familiar with your capture program but most programs allow you to choose the input through a Select Source button. Make sure the source is set to S-video.

Yes, I'm i hundred percent sure i've set the "input source" to s-video. I can choose between s-video, tv and composite. If I choose anything else than s-video i get no picture. But when I do choose s-video the picture is b/w...
Maybe there is some other program I could try?
And as I said... with composite it works just fine... weird! -
Hello,
Doesn't the s-video cable divide the color information and black and white into two seperate streams? If this is true could either the s-video inputs be faulty or possibly the cable? Just a guess....the composite or RCA cables and jacks carry both the color and black/white information in one wire. -
Two possibilities:
1) Bad S-video cable - color wire broken or pin bent in plug
2) Trying to capture PAL on NTSC card or visa versa as the color burst signal is different for each standard.Panasonic DMR-ES45VS, keep those discs a burnin'
