capturing problem

I have just purchased a new digital camcorder canon mv530i with bundled firewire card & Presto videoworks 5.0 software.

My problem is this:- when i come to capture video into my pc using the firewire card, the software does not pick up any sound & sometimes the picture is a bit "choppy" but doesnt show any dropped frames.
I have also tried capturing in other programs (scenalyzer live trial version) & same problem occurs

I also have captured analogue video using a pctv rave card & had no problems like this so feel the problem arises with the new set up.

My system is win me, athlon 1g chip, 40 gb drive, on board sound & video (think this is where the problem will lie)

just tried with windows movie maker & got sound & picture together altho picture quality is not very good!!
