  1. Hi I have been encoding for a while now and have had no problem
with encoding until I upgraded to windows xp. Now when I encode it
doesnt show the picture. This is the same when trying to convert avi
file to mpg in tmpgenc as well. I have installed div 3 and 4 codecs but
not sure about div 5 codec. is it compatible for windows xp, or do i need
    a different codec.
Any help would be appreciated. I know this shouldnt be in the newbie
section but not sure where to put it.

    thanks

  5. ok i can now encode movies that are ripped onto the hard drive, but i am
still having problems with avi files in tmpgenc.
everytime i open tmpgenc and open a avi file windows xp closes the program saying it has encountered a problem and needs to close. not sure what to do about this. I tried to open a avi file in virtual dub and it
    comes up with an error
"Couldnt locate decompressor for format dx50. virtualdub requires a video for windows (vfw) compatible codec to decompress video. directshow codecs such as those used by windows media player are not suitable.

    Any help
    thanks

  6. You DO have the current version of TMPGENC pro, with vfapi registered to it, I trust?

I have had many of these probs thats why i said codec prob at most or direct x prob. I used to use nimo codec pack but since i used ace codec pack i havent gone back. Ace pack installs most of the codecs including some you dont need but hey i at least have eveyrthing rosy on my machine.

  8. Thanks for all your help.
I reinstalled codecs 3,4 and 5. Also Nimo codec pack and went into
the enviromental settings and plugins and made sure directshow was a
    priority one.
I can now encode avi files.

    Thanks heaps
