One of the first things I would look at is the burn speed you are using. I found much to my dismay, but made the CDR folks happy, was that burning any video format at a high speed was a guarantee to generate some pops skips and the like. So try burning slow reeeeeeeeeaaaaaallllllll slow and see what happens

Try 4 speed, I have yet to produce a coaster at that speed (knock on wood).

I buy a lot of generic media at Fry's. If I burn it at anything higher than 8X, I get major skips and pauses. I have some Maxell and Fuji Film media that I burn at 24X on my Yamaha drive & they play without a problem.
So that I can burn at high speed without the skips, I have resigned myself to buying media from the local retail stores when they put it on sale with the mail-in rebate that makes it as cheap as the generic stuff. -
I tried burning it at 1x but nero burner it at 4x and the skips and pauses were still there. I played the VCD on my computer and it was fine. Can any one tell me what the problem is?

Your DVD player can't play CD-R's correctly. Try playing them on another DVD player.
