I know there are standard screen sizes for vcd and svcd and other nonstandard sizes, but what is the difference that will appear on the tv. Say for example I encode the same clip 3 times using the same template but change the size of each of them to 352x240,480x480 and 720x480. Will the picture be the same size when played on my dvd player?
Thanks
John

Hmmm, i think you will end with black or strange pictures on your tv.
Most Standalone player are very straight in what they will play
My dvdplayer plays vcd's only in 352x288 and nothing else
svcd's the same only 480x576
The only standard that a bit flexible is dvd
720 x 576 pixels
352 x 288 pixels (VCD Standard)
352 x 576 pixels (CVD Standard)
There's nothing wrong on trying something with other sizes /datarates on a cdrw.

yes, they will be the same size when you play them in your dvd player. just the higher the resolution, the clearer the picture will be. the lower the resolution, the more blurry the picture becomes.

They won't play just anything, and about krekel's post, those are PAL resolutions.

Another way to think of the difference between: 352x240,352x480,480x480 and 720x480 is the SHAPE OF THE PIXEL.
On a 4x3 TV, they all are the same size, but the pixels are a different size and shape.
Likewise, if you switched to a 16x9 TV, the shape of the pixel changes, not the resolution. Thats why 720x480 can fill the screen on a 4x3 and 16x9 TV.
