  1. I have a VHS copy of a 1979 concert of the Ozark Mountain Daredevils I wish to put to VCD the video quality is low but the audio is decent when played through my VCR.....I don't feel there is much improvement I can make in the video quality with Vdub or TmpgEnc so I figure I'd capture straight to VCD 352x240 with AVI IO (I drop less frames with AVI IO) the picture quality remains about the same in the capture and the audio sounds OK too ,But when I encode to VCD standard with TmpgEnc I get this very slight crackling hiss sound (more amplified the higher the volume) when played back on my DVD (apex) player (burnt to VCD with Nero) I was wondering should I re capture at a higher (or what audio setting? ) (the VHS seems to be mono) audio setting even though I dont seem to hear this hiss in the captured AVI... can I make any changes to the audio other than what I see in TmpgEnc? or could I separate the audio and video (of the mpg1 ) and tweak the audio in another program (any audio program suggestions, freeware preferably) If I can get this hiss out Ill be a happy camper. I'll experiment around with things and check back later to see if anyone has a suggestion or two.

    Thanks,

    Mike

try making the audio back to a .wav file and edit it(to enhance it) with a program like cool edit or sound forge, then convert the enhanced file back to an .mp2,with toolame then remultiplex it with the video portion again
a little xtra work, but maybe there will be an improvement
