  1. I don't know if anyone else have this problem.

I have this SVCD, that I think is SVCD. The main file is *.dat though. But I am sure I downloaded it as SVCD as the file name states.

    update: format is
    ntsc vcd (352x240, 29.97fps)
    video: 1150kbit CBR
    audio: 224kbits 44.1khz

Tried PowerDVD XP, WinDVD, mpeg2 codec, Elecard player and decoder and MediaPlayer .... I still cannot play the SVCD file.

I did not burn in on CD though. Opened the *.dat file directly from harddisk using all kinds of players. Do I need to burn it to view it? Or will burning on CD achieve same problem of black/green screen & screeching sound during playback?

    Thank you.

  2. Is this the only SVCD that does this? Actually, in your update you say that the format is ntsc VCD, which is MPEG1. This may be why trying other MPEG2 codecs didn't work. If it's the only one, then I would suggest improper authoring or data corruption to be the culprit.

Sorry I can't be of more help,

    Prospero

  3. I have tried 2 different kind of other SVCDs. It has exactly the same problem.
Because even though the format is written NTSC VCD, I am quite sure the file name was SVCD.

So, what if all were SVCD formats? Would you know how to sove this problem?
